12 Days of Christmas Perspective/ Day 11- Treasured Moments
2010 was filled with some of the best of times and some of the worst of times. The year began with my 3rd major knee surgery after tearing my ACL playing basketball at the church. It ended with a scary car accident in Houston. Overall though, it was filled with special moments, moments that I will certainly cherish. Some of the highlights were….in no particular order
…our 4th annual summer vacation to Edisto Island South Carolina (where Becca’s Grandmother grew up)
—AWESOME trips with the youth group. 4th annual Youth JAM, Resurrection, and summer missions to Minneapolis and Serve the City.
—AMAZING FAMILY get togethers! My siblings and I surprised my big brother John for his 30th birthday by all traveling to Iowa to celebrate! John and I had our first ever BROTHERS GOLF OUTING in the hawkeye state in May (will do our 2nd trip this coming May), I performed my brother John’s wedding ceremony to his bride Mollie in August, and my Dad and I figured out that after I visit him next weekend we will have hung out together 6 times this year! July for my preaching in TN an John’s wedding, August at the Global Leadership Summit in Houston, Young Adult fall retreat in TN in October, Family Thanksgiving in TX in November, and next weekend for December! I told him I could live with that EVERY SINGLE YEAR!
—Becca and I capped off an exciting year together by traveling to Chicago this past week for some Holiday time just the 2 of us! We stayed at the Burnham Hotel downtown Chicago and enjoyed the German Christmas Market in Daley Plaza (christkindel), some great shopping, incredible food, the museum of science and industry, and a Chicago Blackhawks Game! It was freezing cold, snowed on us, and was a very memorable trip for us after the long year!
There were many other exciting events that I have left out…but I have learned during this past year that it is very important that we think about and remember these events and treasure them in our hearts. Luke 2: 19 says, “But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.” Mary stopped during that exciting event (the birth of her first child…and also the Savior who had come to save the world) and pondered exactly what was happening. Then she treasured the moment away…a moment that she would remember for the rest of her life. I truly believe that this Christmas God desires for us to experience real peace and calm with our faith, our family, and our friends as we celebrate the birth of his one and only Son, Jesus Christ. One of the ways that we can do that is by reflecting on the treasured moments God has blessed us with during the previous year. How have you been blessed during 2010? What moments during the past year do you treasure? What moments during your LIFE do you treasure?
Merry Christmas Eve! Talk to you all tomorrow as we wrap up this exciting series!
