12 Days of Christmas Perspective- Day 9/ Music
There are so many things in life that inspire me. Near the top of that list is MUSIC. Ever since I was a small boy growing up in Eastern Iowa music has been a big part of my life. It began with Piano lessons at a very young age. Then came singing…in school and church programs, Christmas Pageants, and Choir Concerts. When I reached the 8th grade I chose to continue to pursue Choir to its fullest potential and gave up Piano lessons. My high school years were consumed by Concert Choir, Chamber Choir, All-State Choir, Competition Choir for District and State Competitions, and Musicals. Beyond that I was a Christian Music JUNKIE…and I still am. I lived for some DC Talk, Michael W. Smith, Steven Curtis Chapman, and more! I attended every Christian Concert I could get a ticket to with my youth group and listened to it non stop when I wasn’t rehearsing for Choir. It encourages me, it builds me up, and it often starts my day off on the right foot! I am so thankful for how music has played a significant role in my life, both in how I prepare for and execute tasks during my work day as a local pastor, and in how I see the world that I live in. It is amazing how music can change the direction of a bad day, how it can lift up a friend who is hurting, and how it can keep your perspective on the right things during a certain time of year. I especially lean on the Bible Truths in Christian Christmas Music during this special time of the year. My personal favorite this Christmas season has been Dave Barnes new album, “A Very Merry Christmas,” which includes a sweet blend of Christmas favorites and Gospel Truths! If you haven’t bought this album yet you can pick it up on itunes for 5.99!
I pray that you are allowing yourself to experience some quiet and stillness during Advent…and perhaps you can fill your next time of stillness with some of the sweet sounds that tell the story of the birth of our Savior!
I also love how people are creative with Music…and I was sent the video below by a friend of mine in the Young Adult Ministry. North Point Community Church, where Andy Stanley is the Senior Pastor, had a group of guys form an IBAND. AMAZING. Enjoy it, and have a very merry Christmas today!
