I need a father
I have been blessed with an unbelievable example of an earthly father. My Dad continues to be such an inspiration in my life, my marriage, my family, and my walk with Christ. He leads me, encourages me, prays for me, and gives me counsel during difficult times. However, I’m not talking about Steve Aronowitz this morning.
Last week as I studied in the Psalms and in Galatians preparing for my sermon on “Freedom in Christ,” I was overwhelemed. There was a point in my preparation where the week seemed too big, where my life seemed too big, where things just weren’t coming together as I had hoped. I went to my ITUNES playlist and clicked on Starfield’s new CD called, “THE SAVING ONE.” Starfield has long been a favorite group of mine…and of every kid in the FFUMC Youth Group. I went to my couch in my office and grabbed my Bible. I began meditating on Psalms 95 and 96 and praying over the Freedom that I do have in Christ! Then a song came on. The last song on the album is called, “I need a Father.” Instead of me talking about it…just listen to it. Let it be your song today. Let it speak to you as you work in the office or cook dinner for your family. Whatever the situation may be with your earthly father this is a powerful challenge. We all need our father…in heaven, who gives us life, the opportunity for eternity, and purpose as we live. As my favorite Starbucks Barista says on Cedar Bluff Rd as I leave the Drive through, “Have a blessed day!” She is great!
